ABOUT THe project

This modern mountain home near Park City, Utah, was designed with one clear, laser-focused goal: clean & serene.

The original layout severely restricted natural daylight and the beautiful surrounding landscape views with far too few window openings. We remedied that by refreshing the layouts, adding a generous new window, and installing a glass door in the laundry/mudroom/pantry space. The result dramatically elevates the zen on both sides of that threshold, creating a calm, flowing connection throughout the home.

Blonde rift-cut maple cabinetry paired with semi-matte grey flooring sets a beautifully quiet and grounded stage for the entire space.

Of Note — We originally designed the addendum island table at the same height as the main island. The homeowners initially decided to lower it to standard dining height. We gently mentioned that this change might actually lessen the sociality of the space, as friends and family would tend to stand and lean against the higher island section rather than sit down.

Psychologically, no one wants to feel like they’re seated at a lower “pupil” level while the homeowner is working at the higher counter right beside them — it creates an unintended teacher/student dynamic rather than the relaxed, equal interaction everyone is looking for.

After living with the lower table for a few months, the clients realized this was exactly what was happening and reordered it at counter height. Now their family and guests happily sit and relax on the same level as the person working… like true equals.
